The kids and I have been spending A LOT of time together recently. The current pandemic has brought a stay-at-home order to our state, so we are no longer attending school or work. Instead we are doing everything from home. And all the business places we used to go to are closed down. I’m sure many of you relate. In an effort to keep the kids entertained and busy I have introduced many activities we’ve never done before. One of those is Testors Spray Chalk! It is so fun!
Check out what we’ve done with it over the last month! We tried it on a variety of surfaces and I’ll explain how well it worked on each.

SUPPLIES:
- Testors Spray Chalk – different colors available at Michaels, Menards, and Amazon
- Testors Shimmer Spray Chalk – available at Meijer and Target
- OPTIONAL: Rustoleum Spray Handle

SNOW:
Our first attempt at using it was in the snow! We got an untimely snowstorm during our spring break so we decided to make the best of it and use the spray chalk on snow.

My teen daughter spray chalked a unicorn. She used the Shimmer Spray Chalk and it is so fun and sparkly!

My favorite thing about spray chalk in snow is that you see every particle of paint. It is easy to blend colors and make fun images.

We spray chalked a message to all our neighbors because this was also the first week of the COVID-19 stay-at-home order.

GRASS:
Next, on a warmer day, we decided to make up our own yard game.

We created a target in our backyard and used it to throw in bean bags for different amount of points. It was a fun time with the teenagers and kept them busy for over an hour.

Using spray chalk on grass was definitely different than snow. It worked well but seemed to take more spraying to get the solid color. This would be perfect for making temporary lines for anything like home baseball, soccer, or disc golf as my son has been doing.

ASPHALT:
And finally, on my daughter’s best friend’s birthday, we went over early in the morning and spray chalked her driveway for a fun surprise!
Birthdays during this pandemic are hard and we wanted to do something special to let her know we were thinking of her.

Again, we used the Shimmer Spray Chalk for this to give it an extra fun effect in the sunlight.

Spray chalk works really great on asphalt and concrete. The colors are bright and the glitter colors truly sparkle. I plan to have some on hand for drop-by birthday and holiday surprises!

We also used the Rustoleum Comfort Grip for this design. It makes it a lot easier to control the spraying and is absolutely more comfortable! I will never use spray paint again without one!

If you’re wondering if spray chalk washes away like regular chalk, it does, but not as quickly. If you get rain, it will start to wash away. But without rain, the image fades to white over a few days and can then be washed (or rained) away.
One note is with the shimmer colors, the glitter in it stays around for awhile longer than the color. After it rained we had some glitter at the bottom of our driveway for a couple weeks, though it was only visible if you’re standing right over it. It did eventually disappear a week or so later.

You will be able to find Shimmer Spray Chalk at Meijer and Target. Other colors can be found at Michaels, Menards, and Amazon as well.
I hope you like these fun projects and will give the spray chalk a try! It really gave us some fun creative moments OUTSIDE. Which is something my kids were desperately needing.
Let me know if you have any questions. Please share this post if you like these ideas!

Now get out there and create something!
