When a dear friend asked me if I could make a cute dreamcatcher for her daughter, I loved the idea and came up with this DIY Doily Dreamcatcher. She’s eventually planning to use small hooks and hang jewelry on the dreamcatcher but I just love how this turned out for a wall decoration as well!
Since I used an old doily and embroidery hoop for this project, it fit perfectly into the Upcycle It! Projects with the girls in the Love Your Home, At Home DIY Challenges! You can find the rest of their amazing upcycled projects at the end of this post.
Alright, here’s how I made this cute DIY Doily Dreamcatcher…
SUPPLIES:
- Doily
- Embroidery Hoop
- Super Glue
- Clothespins or small clamps
- Ribbons of your choice
- Feathers
Step One: Gather supplies
Grab your doily, embroidery hoop, clothes pins and super glue.

Step 2: Stretch the Doily
Place the doily on top of the hoop and pin them together. Then stretch the exact opposite side and pin it.

Move around the doily pinning opposite sides at a time until the entire thing is pinned to the hoop.

Step 3: Glue and repin
Remove only one pin and add a few dots of super glue, then repin.

I added two clothespins to each spot just for good measure. Let glue dry.

Step 4: Secure outer hoop

Place the outer hoop back around the glue doily center hoop and tighten the screw at the top.
Step 5: Add ribbon
Choose a variety of ribbons that you like. I wanted a few different tones, textures and widths for mine, so here are the ribbons I found.

Tie them onto the hoop. The photos below will show you how I did it.

Fold the ribbon in half. Push the looped end through from the front of the hoop to the back.

Take the two loose ends in the front and insert them through the looped end that is now coming from the back of the hoop.

Pull tight. Keep adding ribbons until you have enough for your liking.

Step 6: Add feathers

Super glue feathers to your ribbons in places where they look aesthetically pleasing. I used three feathers. Add a dot of super glue and use a clothes pin to hold them together until the glue dries.

FINISHED!
There you have it! A beautiful DIY Doily Dreamcatcher!

I hope you loved this project as much as I did. It’s quick and easy and is such a fun piece of art to display!
